At 103, Vi Still Lights Up at Open Circle of Princeton

For 103-year-old Vi, Open Circle of Princeton is more than a place to spend the day. It’s a community where she enjoys meaningful friendships, engaging activities, and a sense of belonging. For her daughter Kathleen, it’s reassuring to know that Vi is surrounded by friends while also providing valuable respite time for family caregivers.

When asked what she enjoys most about Open Circle of Princeton Adult Day Services, Vi’s answer is simple:

“The people are the best part; the people are nice and nice to talk to,” she says. “I like to sit with the ladies that are good talkers; and the activities we do are fun.”

At Open Circle, Vi has found a place for seniors where familiar faces greet her each day. The relationships she has built are what keep her engaged and excited to participate.

During an interview, Kathleen turned to her mother and asked, “You love coming here, don’t you?”

Vi smiled and replied:

“Yeah, I do!”

While friendships are important, activities also play a big role in Vi’s experience.

One of her favorite memories was a musical performance by the Stoney Brooks Band. The event brought participants together through music, conversation, and shared enjoyment.

When told the band would be returning for another performance, Vi was delighted to hear the news.

Moments like these help make Open Circle a place where older adults can stay socially engaged while enjoying new experiences.

When asked how Open Circle helps her enjoy each day, Vi focuses on what matters most.

“I enjoy the people.”

According to Kathleen, the small, community-focused environment makes Open Circle a perfect fit for her mother.

Everyone knows Vi, and just as importantly, Vi knows everyone else.

That sense of connection creates an environment where members feel comfortable, valued, and included. For many older adults, opportunities to socialize with peers become increasingly important over time.

Kathleen believes those relationships have made a meaningful difference in her mother’s life.

“I love that she can be around friends her own age and I see her light up when she gets to come here.”

Open Circle supports not only participants but also their families.

As a caregiver, Kathleen appreciates knowing that Vi is spending her day with friends in a supportive and welcoming environment. She also shares how valuable the respite time is as she balances caring for other family members.

Having trusted support during the day allows caregivers to focus on other responsibilities while knowing their loved one is engaged, active, and connected to others.

At 103 years old, Vi continues to show the importance of friendship, connection, and purpose.

For her, Open Circle of Princeton is a place filled with conversations, activities, and friends. For Kathleen, it’s a community that helps her mother thrive while providing support for the entire family.

Together, their story highlights the lasting impact a strong senior community can have on both older adults and the people who care for them.
